XXII Summer Solstice Festival at Brera Botanical Garden

Extraordinary opening on Sunday and re-proposal of the exhibition “Well-being and poisons from plants”

Sunday 22nd June 2025, 10:00am-6:00pm

Orto Botanico di Brera, Via Brera 28 – Via privata F.lli Gabba 10

On the occasion of the XXII edition of the Summer Solstice Festival, promoted by the Network of the Lombardy Botanical Gardens, Brera Botanical Garden – one of the members of the Network – offers an extraordinary opening with free access on Sunday 22nd June 2025.

From Sunday 22nd to Saturday 28th June 2025 the Garden will also offer again to its visitors the exhibition “Well-being and poisons from plants”.

From monkshood to common foxglove, from bittersweet nightshade to Christmas rose, from water hemlock to thornapple: a selection of historical botanical wallcharts by Peter Esser (1910) leads to discover the pharmacological function of some plants, and the dangers that an improper use of plants can entail.

The wallcharts, which are part of the heritage of the historic Herbarium of the University of Milan, are true artworks and depict with meticulous aesthetic and scientific care a selection of poisonous plants, which often also have useful properties for our health. In the exhibition they are reproduced in 1:1 scale.

The exhibition can be visited free of charge in the outdoor space close to Sala Vitman, during opening hours of the Botanical Garden.
