7th-17th April 2025 – Brera Botanical Garden, during the Milan Design Week
Via Fiori Oscuri 4
From 7th to 17th April 2025, the Brera Botanical Garden hosts the installation WAR FLAGS by Philippe Starck with Babinet & Co, for Interni Cre-Action as part of FuoriSalone 2025; in the access passage to the Botanical Garden, there will be the installation IT MEANS PEACE by Marco Balich with Pasquale Bruni.
In a world where global forces and balances are constantly changing, in an era of social, political, ecological and human emergencies, the two installations invite us to take a stand, because peace is a responsibility that belongs to each of us.
WAR FLAGS
In a hypothetical future scenario of widespread hatred, Philippe Starck imagined the Hate Unlimited Korporation, a company dedicated to promoting hate throughout the world also through a catalog of flags and armbands, indispensable for new warriors to recognize each other on the battlefields.
Flags and armbands are placed along the alleys of the Botanical Garden, to compose a unique immersive installation, suspended between reality and dystopia, which harshly denounces the forces and violence that rage in a hypothetical near-future world order and urges the public to take a stand for action.
Philippe Starck is an internationally renowned French architect and designer with activities that range from the creation of everyday objects, to architecture, to naval engineering works; he is considered the most or one of the most famous and visionary authors on the international scene.
IT MEANS PEACE
An artistic installation devoted to peace that transforms a moment of transition into a reflection. The visitor embarks on a symbolic journey, passing through a dark narrow space, dense with sounds, voices and messages evoking external difficulties.
At the end, a space of light and harmony opens up, represented by an olive tree, a universal icon of peace and harmony.
From here, the journey continues with the deconstruction of the flag of peace entrusted to the transcription of the word “peace” in seven different languages, like the seven colors of its flag.
Marco Balich is the creative director and producer of major international events, including 16 Olympic ceremonies and Expo2015 Milan, for which he also created the Tree of Life; he has been awarded an Emmy Award and the Compasso d’Oro.
